What is an IDIQ contract?

An Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract is an umbrella agreement: winning a seat doesn’t guarantee revenue, it earns you the right to compete for task orders issued under it. Much of federal services spending now flows through multiple-award IDIQs and similar vehicles.

The government awards the IDIQ to one or several holders (a multiple-award contract, or MAC), then buys through task or delivery orders against it — usually with fast, holders-only mini-competitions. If your buyers route work through a vehicle you do not hold, those orders are invisible to you on SAM.gov.

Strategy: identify which vehicles your target agencies actually use (their award history shows it), then either pursue a seat at the next on-ramp or team with a holder until you can.
