Acquisition Threshold Guide

Enter a dollar value and see exactly how the government must buy it — and whether the work is likely reserved for small business.

$
Micro-purchase$0 – $15,000

Bought directly — often on a government purchase card. No competitive quotes required.

Set-aside: Not set aside (too small to matter). Just be easy to buy from.

Simplified Acquisition$15,001 – $350,000

Streamlined procedures (FAR Part 13) — usually a quick Request for Quote (RFQ) and a faster award.

Set-aside: Reserved for small business by default. Prime first-win territory.

Above the SAT$350,001 +

Full procedures — sealed bid (IFB, FAR 14) or negotiated proposals (RFP, FAR 15); commercial items via FAR 12.

Set-aside: Set-aside still applies via the Rule of Two when two or more small firms can compete at fair prices.

Thresholds effective October 1, 2025 (FAR 2.101). Some categories differ — services and construction subject to wage laws carry lower micro-purchase limits. Always confirm against the solicitation.

The $15k–$350k band is reserved for small business — the fastest place to win first.Browse live opportunities →
